Have you been diagnosed with a smell disorder, for example as a result of COVID-19, a head trauma from an accident? Or have you lost your sense of smell due to a bad cold? It is clear that not being able to smell or barely being able to smell is annoying and can even be very unpleasant.
Loss of smell has an impact on the quality of your life. Especially if you have been suffering from it for a long time. You enjoy food less or the smell of objects or people in your immediate environment. It can affect your mood and sometimes it is even dangerous (think of poisonous gases or spoiled food).
You can read more about what exactly an olfactory disorder is and the different forms we distinguish in the blog: What is an olfactory disorder?
Fortunately, loss of smell or a disturbed sense of smell can be quickly restored; namely through smell training.
Smell training is a way to train your brain to perceive smells quickly and correctly again. It stimulates the olfactory nerve and the brain, which can lead to olfactory recovery. Recent scientific studies show this. That is why ENT doctors regularly advise to do olfactory training for persistent complaints of loss of smell or a distorted sense of smell.
The complete DOS Medical olfactory training consists of 3 fragrance sets, each with 4 jars of essential oils with their own scents:
· Set 1 : Rose, Lemon, Eucalyptus and Clove
· Set 2 : Jasmine, Mandarin, Mint and Thyme
· Set 3 : Gardenia, Bergamot, Green Tea and Rosemary
Each set contains a fragrance combination of: a floral fragrance, citrus fragrance, fresh fragrance and herbal fragrance. The fragrances and fragrance combinations are not chosen at random. They are all 12 internationally recognized fragrances, which are distinctive enough to train the sense of smell well.
In addition, the sets are a complete 12-week scent training. To achieve optimal results, you must continue the scent training for at least 24 weeks. You can start with Set 1, then Set 2 and then you can optionally do Set 3 for the greatest chance of success.
For the best training, smell each jar twice a day. For example, in the morning and evening, at a quiet and relaxed moment. This way, you stimulate your sense of smell and train your brain to recognize smells (correctly) again. When you order a set or the complete kit of the smell training, you will receive a manual.
